Basic function of the Function Keys of any Keyboard

There are twelve (12) function keys from F1 to F12 are available in any keyboard. Most of the computer users are fused about the function of the function keys. I've described some basic function of the function keys in below.

  • F1 key is working as a booster key. F1 opens Help of any program.
  • F2 key is used to Rename any file or folder. [Alt+Ctrl+F2] is used to open New file in Microsoft Word. [Ctrl+F2] displays the Print Preview of word document.
  • F3 key is used to open Search function on Windows and other programs. [Shift+F3] is used to convert UPPER case word to lower case.
  • F4 key is used to Repeat the last performed action in Microsoft Word. [Alt+F4] is used to Close programs. [Ctrl+F4] is used to close active windows.
  • F5 key is used for Refresh windows, browsers etc. F5 starts the power point slide slow. Also this is used open the Find, Replace, Go window. F5 is also used to execute query in SQL Server.
  • F6 key is used to highlight the address bar of browser.  [Ctrl+Shift+F6] is used to activated the next opened word document.
  • F7 key is used for spelling and grammar check of word document. It is used to start the Create browsing function of Mozilla Firefox. [Shift+F7] is used to open the dictionary function of any word.
  • F8 key is used for start windows in Safe Mode.
  • F9 key is used to open the measurement toolbar of Quark Express.
  • F10 key is used to select the Menu bar of open windows or browsers. [Shift+F10] is used as a replacement of the right button click of any link.
  • F11 key is used to maximize the web browser in full screen and restore.
  • F12 key is used for the Save As function of Microsoft Word. [Shift+F12] is used to save word documents. [Ctrl+Shift+F12] is used to Print of any word document.
